At Inspired2care we want to instil a philosophy into the training and development of staff that they understand behaviours occur for a reason and can be predicted by knowing what happens before and after behaviours that challenge occur. We believe that PBS interventions are essential to reduce behaviours that challenge and can increase adaptive socially appropriate behaviours, this can be achieved through teaching new skills and changing the environment that might trigger the behaviours that challenge. A preventative strategy is a key component which will be reflected in staff’s training and development when they are caring for individuals who present with behaviours that challenge, creating the ethos with staff that it is to focus on the individual triggers and implement the interventions as appropriate. Staff will be supported to implement the agreed PBS strategies by a PBS practitioner who will be employed full time on site and this will further be enhanced by the support of an occupational therapist who can support staff to design and implement therapeutic activities. In addition to this we intend to review the use of assisted technology in the use of reducing restrictive practices therefore enabling the individual to have the space and privacy needed when behaviours that challenge present themselves yet still have the support available at a distance when required.
